COSMIC stands for Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup. It’s a ski area race series that just happens to include as many laps up the mountain as down. Ski mountaineering is not a new sport: it dates back to skiing’s early heyday in the first part of the 1900s. We took inspiration from that period’s art deco ski resort and winter travel posters. Using a period style geometric typeface allowed for excellent readability and clear printing even when used quite small. Having the mountain form the M worked both by adding an “a-ha!” moment and by mimicking rugged alpine terrain.
