Package Design & Illustration | One Fine Year
The artwork for One Fine Year’s CD is a watercolor based on an info graphic for 2007’s weather in the band’s home town of Boulder, Colorado. Using a formula that mashes together mean temperature, humidity and any precipitation, we painted each of the 365 squares to represent what the weather was that day. This seemingly simple idea yields an intricate, delicate and surprisingly beautiful image. It’s much like the music One Fine Year creates — immediately listenable, but deeply layered and complicated. To balance the strong visual we left a lot of whitespace and used a classic serif typeface set in colors borrowed from the painting.
